About Us
Founded in 2000, DeCantus is a group of professional singers in an ensemble ranging from five to ten people. We engage and entertain audiences by tying our selections together in a dynamic performance, uniting elements of music, scripted acting, and improvisation.
We have performed in a variety of venues ranging from corporate parties to music and art festivals to Renaissance Festivals across the country.
Apart from singing together in this group and separately in other choral ensembles, we draw on the diverse individual backgrounds of our members to bring depth to our performances. These experiences include solo singing, acting, musical directing, teaching, composing, arranging, choreographing, improvising, costuming, and producing.
Renaissance Season
In the summer and fall we perform unaccompanied secular music ranging from madrigals to sea shanties, folk music, pub songs, and beyond. We perform this music primarily at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and various art festivals around the Midwest.
Holiday Season
During the Holiday Season, DeCantus transforms into a traditional Victorian caroling group. Gaily-appareled Victorian characters appears in groups of five or ten performing a repertoire of sacred and secular holiday music. We have a diverse mix of holiday standards and rare gems showcasing our rich vocals.
