About Us

DeCantus is a group of professional singers performing a cappella music in an ensemble ranging in size from four to ten people. We engage and entertain our audiences by tying our selections together in a dynamic performance, uniting elements of music, scripted acting, and improvisation.

We have performed in a variety of venues ranging from corporate parties to music and art festivals to Renaissance Festivals across the country.

Apart from singing together in this group and separately in other choral ensembles, we draw on the diverse individual backgrounds of our members to bring depth to our performances.  These experiences include solo singing, acting, musical directing, teaching, composing, arranging, choreographing, improvisation, and producing.

Renaissance Music

In the summer and fall we perform unaccompanied secular music from, and in the style of, the fifteenth through seventeenth centuries, including madrigals, folk songs, catches, and rounds.  We perform this music at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and various art festivals around the Midwest.

Holiday Music

During the Holiday season DeCantus transforms into a traditional Victorian caroling group.  Gaily appareled Victorian characters will appear in groups of five to ten performing a repertoire of sacred and secular holiday music.  We have a diverse mix of holiday standards and rare gems showing off our rich vocals.
